Carnivorous : Dionaea muscipula 5.5cm pot

carnivorous : dionaea muscipula 5.5cm pot

Dionaea muscipula, better known as the Venus flytrap, is a small but mighty carnivorous plant, typically reaching about 10 to 15 centimetres across when mature, with individual traps around 2.5 to 5 centimetres long – tiny but terrifying if you’re a fly. In Northern Ireland, it needs a bit of pampering to thrive, loving bright but indirect light and preferring rainwater or distilled water over tap (it’s a bit posh like that). It grows best in poor, acidic soils like sphagnum moss or a specialist carnivorous mix. Keep it humid and cool, between 20°C in summer and around 5°C during its winter dormancy. Ignore this dormancy, and it’ll sulk dramatically. With patience and the right care, it’ll snap its way into your heart.

New: Clematis Spiky Zospi 90cm tall

new: clematis spiky zospi 90cm tall

Clematis atragene SPIKY ‘Zospi’ is a funky little character in the clematis family, bringing a wild, slightly rebellious vibe to your garden. This compact, deciduous climber usually reaches about 2 to 2.5 metres tall – not too big, not too small, just right for scrambling up trellises, arches, or even through shrubs. It bursts into flower in spring with spiky, semi-double blooms in rich purples and blues, looking like it’s had one too many cups of coffee. In Northern Ireland, it’s quite at home in a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil, and it’s tough enough to cope with frosty winters without throwing a tantrum. Light pruning after flowering keeps it tidy, but honestly, a bit of wildness suits it perfectly.

Geum Fluffy Yellow 19cm wide pot

geum fluffy yellow 19cm wide pot

PET FRIENDLY

Geum 'Fluffy Yellow' is a cheerful, clump-forming perennial that lights up the garden with bright, fluffy, lemon-yellow flowers from late spring into early summer. It reaches around 40–50cm in height with a 30–40cm spread, making it ideal for borders, wildlife gardens, or containers. Thriving in full sun or light shade, it enjoys moist, fertile, well-drained soil — Northern Ireland’s naturally damp climate suits it beautifully. Deadheading spent blooms encourages a longer flowering period, keeping the garden looking lively. ‘Fluffy Yellow’ is generally pest-free, although a wet spring may encourage the odd slug to show an unhealthy interest. It’s an easy-going, sunny little star, perfect for injecting a bit of light and life into any planting scheme with minimal fuss!

The Olea europaea, or patio olive tree, is a compact, evergreen beauty ideal for our gardens and patios. Typically reaching 1.2–1.5 metres in height in a pot, it boasts silvery-green foliage and a gnarled Mediterranean charm. It thrives in full sun and prefers a sheltered spot—think south-facing walls or a sunny terrace. Well-draining soil is a must, and a terracotta pot adds style and breathability. Olive trees are drought-tolerant once established but appreciate a good watering in dry spells. Protect from severe frost with fleece or by moving indoors. With a little TLC, they can produce small olives—and a lot of garden envy.

New: Clematis Dancing King 90cm tall

new: clematis dancing king 90cm tall

Clematis patens 'Dancing King' is a real show-off in the garden, and honestly, who can blame it? This deciduous climber can reach about 2 to 3 metres tall, twining elegantly over trellises, fences, or anything it can grab onto. It boasts huge, semi-double, ruffled blooms in a glorious lilac-pink shade with a bossy yellow centre, usually putting on its best performance in late spring and again in late summer. In Northern Ireland, it’s happiest with its roots kept cool and shaded, but its head in the sun – basically the diva of the clematis world. Plant it in fertile, well-drained soil, give it a light prune after the first flush of flowers, and it’ll reward you by dancing through your garden like it owns the place.

PET FRIENDLY

The Kordia cherry tree (Prunus avium 'Kordia') is a variety of sweet cherry that produces large, dark-red to almost black fruit. It's often referred to as a "dwarf" or "compact" cherry tree because it is relatively smaller in size compared to standard cherry tree varieties. Here are some key characteristics and information about the Kordia cherry tree: Fruit: Kordia cherries are known for their sweet and juicy flavour. The cherries are typically large, heart-shaped, and have a deep red to almost black skin. The flesh is firm and flavourful, making them popular for fresh eating and culinary uses. Size: While Kordia cherries are considered "dwarf" or "compact" compared to standard cherry trees, they still grow to a significant size. This makes them suitable for smaller gardens or spaces.
